Domestic terror bill fails to pass US Senate after mass shootings

Republicans in the US Senate have blocked legislation to combat domestic terrorism, as lawmakers fail to bridge the political divide even in the wake of a series of mass shootings.

47 Senators voted in favour, and 47 against, short of the 60 votes needed, with partisanship again preventing any compromise on the heated topic of gun violence.

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer condemned Republican opposition –- "nothing seems to move them," he said, and "no amount of bloodshed seems to be enough."

From Washington DC, Benji Hyer reports.
