US President Joe Biden has said that Americans should decide for themselves as to whether they keep wearing masks on aeroplanes, trains and buses.
It undercuts efforts by his own administration to urge people to keep wearing face coverings after a federal judge struck down a nationwide mask mandate on public transport.
The Justice Department said it will appeal the ruling if the Centers for Disease Control concludes the mandate is necessary for public health.
