The US Treasury has sanctioned Belgian businessman Alain Goetz, and his African Gold Refinery in Uganda, for smuggling millions of dollars worth of precious metal from conflict areas.
The African Gold Refinery in Uganda is among a network of companies the US Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control say is involved in the illicit movement of gold from the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
