The Russians say they are on the verge of severing diplomatic relations with the United States, after President Biden last week called President Vladimir Putin a "war criminal" for the civilian onslaught in Ukraine.
The US Embassy in Moscow has been the last channel of communication between the two governments since the Russian invasion began.
The Kremlin also said today that Ukrainian proposals for leader-level talks between President Putin and President Zelensky are unacceptable.
