The mayor of the Ukrainian port city of Kherson says it has been seized by Russian forces.
There have been large explosions in the capital Kyiv, sustained shelling in Mariupol, and an aerial assault of the second-largest city Kharkiv.
It comes as the International Criminal Court in the Hague launches an investigation into possible war crimes and crimes against humanity.
