Japan approves World Heritage bid despite South Korean protests

Japan decided Tuesday to recommend a complex of gold and silver mines on the western island of Sado for the 2023 UNESCO World Heritage list. The move has caused protests from South Korea as the site is linked to wartime forced labour.
