The latest surge of coronavirus cases in the US could peak as soon as this month as the omicron variant speeds through the population - according to multiple infectious-disease experts.
In Chicago, where cases are at record levels, public schools were shut on Wednesday after the teachers union voted overwhelmingly to resume remote learning, defying the city's order to return to classrooms.
