Mandatory face coverings in public places, and covid passes for large events, will also be removed next week.

The government says the Omicron covid-19 peak is passing, and the booster vaccination rollout means the economy can be one of the most open in Europe.

It's part of Boris Johnson's attempts to fight back after calls for his resignation over parties in Downing Street.

Conservative MP Mark Fletcher says the Prime Minister was defiant in the House of Commons on Wednesday.
