US markets began August on a high note thanks to strong corporate earnings, encouraging US manufacturing data, and prospects for the $1-trillion-dollar infrastructure spending bill.
But that optimism failed to hold the day.
Weighed down by concerns about the Delta variant and worries over China's tech crackdown, the Dow Jones and the S&P finished in negative territory.
