Historians criticise Indian government's revamp of pre-independence memorial

Intro:

The Indian government is facing fierce criticism for renovating a century-old memorial in the state of Punjab.

The Jallianwala (Juh-lee-yan-wa-lah) Bagh where more than a thousand people were killed by colonial British forces has been given a modern look by officials.

But historians say, the face-lift glamourises a rather painful event in history.
