The UK and EU are extending a grace period on changes to trading rules between Britain and Northern Ireland, in a last-minute concession by the EU.
The changes would have created greater disparity between Northern Ireland and the rest of the UK, across the Irish Sea, which the UK felt was unacceptable.
In particular, transporting chilled meats like sausages from Britain into Northern Ireland would have become impossible - even though they're part of the same country.
Stuart Smith reports from London.
