South Africa is returning to an adjusted Lockdown Level 4. A third wave of COVID-19 infections is threatening to push health facilities beyond their capacity in some regions. The highly transmissible Delta variant has been identified in at least five of the country’s nine provinces, prompting regulations that curtail non-essential contact between persons and reduce the prevalence of trauma cases in hospital emergency wards.
