South Africa’s Electricity Regulation Act is being amended to increase the permitted capacity of embedded generation projects. Businesses will now be able to generate up to 100 times more power, without a licence from the country’s national energy regulator. The announcement comes a day after the nation was once again plunged into Stage 4 load shedding, with national energy supplier, Eskom, unable to keep up with winter electricity demand.
