EU ambassadors agree to close bloc airspace to Belarusian planes

European Union ambassadors have agreed to close the bloc's airspace to Belarusian carriers.

That means airlines from the EU's eastern neighbour are barred from flying over the 27-member bloc's territories, or land in any of its airports.

The agreement cements a decision by EU leaders to punish Minsk, over the forced landing of a Ryanair jet to arrest a journalist.
