UK FUNDS TESTING ON COVID-19 VARIANT VACCINES

The UK's announced new funding to fast-track the development of vaccines that can respond to new Covid-19 variants.

An extra £30 million will go to testing facilities at Britain's Porton Down research laboratory, and vaccine manufacturing capabilities.

It'll mean scientists can test 3000 blood samples each week to assess how different vaccines produce protective antibodies against strains of coronavirus.

UK vaccine minister Nadhim Zahawi says it'll help in the fight to keep the virus at bay.
