US extends national emergency on South Sudan

The White House has extended a national emergency on South Sudan in order to deal with what it describes as an unusual and extraordinary threat to the national security and foreign policy of the United States.

President Joe Biden says the current situation in South Sudan is characterised by activities that threaten the peace, security, or stability of South Sudan and the surrounding region.
