Jobless claims tick up less than expected as new stimulus looms

The number of Americans filing for first-time unemployment benefits
ticked up less than analysts expected last week.

It remains above levels seen before the Covid-19 pandemic hit but a
$1.9 trillion stimulus package is soon expected to provide some
support.
