Senior Russian lawmakers have proposed amending the law to make insulting WWII veterans a criminal offence.
According to the Vice Speaker of the lower house, Irina Yarovaya, the law should punish those who "humiliate the honour and dignity" of front-line soldiers.
It comes after Russian opposition figure Alexei Navalny was fined eleven and a half thousand dollars for slandering a veteran, a charge he denies, and believes was politically motivated.
Stuart Smith has more from Moscow.
