UK records a further 62,000 Covid-19 cases and over 1,000 deaths

In the last 24 hours 62,322 people have tested positive for Covid-19 and a further 1,041 have died in the UK.

It has also been revealed that for the first time more than 30,000 people have been admitted to hospital because of the virus.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson said that the 'race' is now on to vaccinate as many people as possible.

If the current rate continues to climb, Health Secretary Matt Hancock warned that the NHS may not be able to cope with the increased pressure.
