Merkel asks state leaders to extend Germany's lockdown

German Chancellor Angela Merkel has convened a meeting of state leaders to seek approval to extend Germany's lockdown until February. 

The country continues to battle a winter resurgence of Covid-19, with lawmakers saying it remains too early to start lifting restrictions.
