India's Serum Institute seeks emergency use approval for AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine

INTRO:

The Serum Institute of India has applied for emergency use authorisation in the country for AstraZeneca's Covid-19 vaccine, which it is manufacturing locally.

This comes after Pfizer on Saturday is understood to have applied for a similar authorisation.

India added almost 33,000 new Covid-19 infections in 24 hours on Monday, according to health ministry figures, bringing its total to close to 9.7 million confirmed cases.
