Germany and the Netherlands back under lockdown as Europe cases spike

A number of European countries have tightened coronavirus restrictions ahead of Christmas following a surge of infections in recent weeks.

Germany will go into a hard national lockdown from Wednesday, after infections hit record levels.

The Netherlands has entered a five-week lockdown, closing schools and non-essential businesses.
