Despite no clear winner and votes still being counted, both U.S. President Donald Trump and Democratic challenger Joe Biden say they are confident of winning.
The race is tightening in a nail-biter of a race which has been bitter and hotly contested.
Both camps have lined up legal teams in anticipation of a protracted legal battle over votes.
