UK PAYROLLS SLUMP

New figures show companies in the UK now employ almost 700 000 fewer people than they did in March.

The Office for National Statistics says the rate of unemployment rose to 4.1% in the three months to July - due to the impact of Covid-19.

Recruitment agency boss James Reed says the figures are likely to worsen further as the government unwinds its furlough scheme.
