The UK government's under pressure to extend further support to the economy after announcing new coronavirus restrictions which could last six months.
Chancellor Rishi Sunak's furlough scheme - which has paid the wages of millions of workers - is due to finish at the end of next month.
But several sectors of the economy have still not been able to reopen fully, or in some cases, at all.
Clare McNeill from the Institute for Public Policy Research is recommending a wages subsidy scheme, which is reportedly under consideration by the government.
