NHS COVID APP LAUNCHES

A new covid-19 contact-tracing app has gone live for people living in England and Wales.

The government had hoped to have an app up and running several months ago, but issues with design and usability have delayed it.

People are being urged to download the app which can alert users when they come into close contact with someone who tests positive.

The UK reported 6178 covid-19 cases on Wednesday - up over 1000 on the day before.

Health Secretary Matt Hancock says the NHS Covid-19 app will help keep rising cases under control.
