100,000s of redundancies in UK as coronavirus leads to economic downturn

More than 300,000 redundancies were planned by British employers in June and July -- that's an almost sevenfold increase on the same period last year. 


The coronavirus lockdown brought many industries to a standstill, forcing companies to lay off staff.
