EU Commission President criticises 'only-for-me' attitude of some member states in COVID-19 response

The President of the European Commission has described the coronavirus pandemic as a "turning point" for the bloc.

In a speech delivered at an almost empty European Parliament, Ursula Von Der Leyen criticised member states who'd protected national interest at a time when cooperation was needed. 

She referenced countries who had stopped exporting medical equipment despite shortages in the worst-hit countries Italy and Spain.
