Brexit: Preparations cost government more than £4bn

UK government departments spent more than £4bn (or $5.2bn USD) on preparations for leaving the European Union, according to the country's public spending watchdog.

The National Audit Office says this figure included spending on staff, external advice and advertising.

It comes as the first round of post-Brexit negotiations ended in Brussels, with disagreements remaining on a number of key issues.
