TALKS TO RESTORE NORTHERN IRELAND GOVERNMENT RESUME UNDER ELECTION THREAT

Talks to restore Northern Ireland's government have resumed after the Christmas holidays, to try to break three years of political deadlock.

The two largest parties, Sinn Fein [pron: Shin Fayne] and the DUP, have been unable to agree how to share power.

But if they can't come to an agreement in just under two weeks, an election could be called.
