UK PM SEARCHES FOR BACKSTOP SOLUTION

Northern Ireland's DUP says Boris Johnson is not considering a Northern Ireland-only backstop to get a Brexit deal.

It's reported Mr Johnson is moving towards such a solution, or an all-Ireland zone for livestock and agricultural goods.

The Prime Minister is trying to find ways to replace the controversial backstop in the current Withdrawal Agreement, while also keeping the border open between Ireland and Northern Ireland.

The UK's promising to step up negotiations with the EU while its Parliament is suspended until mid-October.

Political reporter Theo Usherwood says discussions with Brussels continue ahead of a looming general election.
