U.S. Officials say Strategy is to Deter Attacks from Iran, Not Start a War

Top US officials say the Trump administration is aiming to deter attacks from Iran, and not to encourage war.

The comments follow days of tensions between the two adversaries.

 President Donald Trump has also sent mixed signals by offering talks but threatening the country's leaders via Twitter. 

Earlier this month the U.S. sent an aircraft carrier group to the region as tensions rose over Trump's "maximum pressure" campaign against Iran.
