European Council President Donald Tusk says there will be a 'special place in hell' for Brexiteers who didn't have a plan for leaving the European Union.
His comments have provoked an angry reaction from some British lawmakers.
Mr Tusk was speaking after Brexit talks with Irish leader Leo Varadkar in Brussels - ahead of a visit from UK Prime Minister Theresa May on Thursday.
Mrs May is seeking changes to the controversial Irish border backstop solution.
UK correspondent Olly Barratt says Donald Tusk's comments are being rigorously examined in the UK.
