Virgin Galactic carries pilots to the edge of space

Virgin Galactic has become the first company to send a craft designed for private passengers to the edge of space.

Two former military pilots reached an altitude of nearly 83 kilometers [51.4 miles] - just above what the U.S. government recognizes as the boundary where space begins.

It marks a major step in a race to dominate a newly emerging space tourism industry.
