British Prime Minister Theresa May says the cabinet have taken the decisive step to back a Brexit draft withdrawal agreement which will enable her to finalize the deal with the European Union in the coming days.
It follows a lengthy cabinet meeting which ran to nearly five hours, in which ministers were shown the draft agreement and asked for their support.
Leaked details of the draft agreement have emerged provoking furious reactions from Brexit supporting MPs, those from the DUP party of Northern Ireland who prop up Mrs May's government in parliament, as well as Remain-supporting lawmakers. Meaning cabinet approval is just the first small hurdle for this draft agreement.
After the meeting, Mrs May made a statement outside Downing Street to say tough decisions had been taken.
