UK GOVT STEPS IN OVER 'APPALLING' PRISON

The UK government is taking direct control of a major prison in the city of Birmingham, after finding it in a state of 'appalling squalor', and with serious bullying and security issues.

Birmingham Prison had been being run by private firm G4S.
