The Hong Kong government lashed out at the Foreign Correspondents Club after it staged a talk by the convenor of the Hong Kong National Party.
In a statement issued briefly after the event concluded, it said that it was inappropriate for anyone to promote and advocate the independence of the Chinese territory, adding that it was a violation of the territory's Basic Law and an affront to national sovereignty.
