Indian court upholds death penalty for 2012 Delhi gang rape convicts

India's top court has dismissed a review petition filed by three of the four convicts in the 2012 Delhi gang rape case.

The case dates back to six years ago when a 23-year-old medical student was brutally gang-raped and repeatedly assaulted on a moving bus and then abandoned on the roadside.

The case had sparked off wide-spread protests across the country and was instrumental in bringing about sweeping changes in rape laws in India.
