HEATHROW EXPANSION WINS UK CABINET APPROVAL

The UK cabinet has approved plans to build a third runway at London's Heathrow Airport.

It will now be put to a vote by MPs in the coming weeks.

Even with the go-ahead, the runway won't be operational until between 2025 and 2030.

Environmentalists oppose the plans because of concerns over noise, air pollution and the construction work required.

It's an issue that's been bitterly debated in the UK for nearly two decades.

UK correspondent Olly Barratt says many in the business community are welcoming the news.
