Palestinians seek emergency meetings at UN Security Council, Human Rights Council over Gaza deaths, US embassy opening


As the death toll from clashes along the Gaza border continues to rise, the Palestinian Ambassador to the United Nations Riyad Mansour has expressed outrage at the actions of the Israeli forces and called for an emergency Security Council meeting to discuss the latest killings and the opening of the US embassy in Jerusalem.

Palestinian Ambassador Riyad Mansour told reporters at the United Nations Monday that 45 Palestinian civilians have been killed at the hands of "the savages of the Israeli occupying forces," including eight children under 16 years of age. More than 2,000 others have been injured, he said, putting the tally of casualties since March 31st at nearly 100 killed and more than 11,000 injured.

Riyad Mansour wants an emergency Security Council session in New York for his country to seek redress and accountability, as well as an emergency meeting at the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva to conduct an investigation into alleged atrocities committed by Israeli forces in Gaza protests.
