Indian court gives nod for mercy killing of elephant kept at temple

An Indian court has permitted the mercy killing of a sick elephant kept at a Hindu temple in the south of the country. 

Animal rights groups have long questioned the treatment of elephants kept at temples to give blessings to visitors.
