U.S. lawmakers delay vote on re-opening government [CLIPS]

The United States government shutdown is entering a third day as
lawmakers in the senate failed to gain enough support to vote again on
the subject.

A vote was scheduled to take place on Monday at 1am eastern time but
having failed to garner enough support, senators pushed the vote back
until noon on Monday.

Senate majority leader Mitch McConnell urged lawmakers to muster the
60 votes needed to end the shutdown.

Immigration is a key reason why Republicans and Democrats have
struggled to reach an agreement. Democrats want guaranteed protection
for people brought to the U.S. illegally as children but Republicans
don't want to discuss immigration reform during the government
shutdown.

Senate majority leader Mitch McConnell has put forward a plan in a bid
to ease concerns on the other side of the aisle.

Despite some optimism on Sunday that lawmakers were getting closer to
