Republican lawmakers push for vote to avoid US government shutdown

Republican lawmakers are pushing for a vote to avoid a shutdown of the US federal government.

Congress needs to pass at least a short term spending bill by midnight on Friday local time in Washington to avoid non-essential services shutting down.
