"Bomb Cyclone" to hit US east coast

Millions of Americans are in the crosshairs of a major winter storm.

Forecasters say up to 12 inches of snow is expected along the East Coast from Boston to Virginia Beach in what's being called a "bombogenesis" [[ BOM-boh-gen-eh-sis ]] or a bomb cyclone.

That's a weather system that involves a rapid drop in barometric pressure, which leads to an intense storm.

<New York City has already canceled classes at all city schools.  All of eastern Maine is under a Blizzard Warning, while Hard Freeze Warnings are in effect from Eastern Texas to the Georgia and Florida coasts.>

It's already snowing in South Carolina where Governor Henry McMaster is urging people to stay indoors.
