Severe "purple" alert issued for California's wildfires

Hundreds of thousands of people have fled their homes in Southern
California after massive wildfires ripped through the south of the
state.

Officials have raised the "purple" alert for the first time - which is
the most severe warning for high winds spreading the fires.

US correspondent, Frances Read is in Los Angeles and says they're
expecting conditions to get worse.
