Obama warns about the misuse of social media

Former US President Barack Obama has warned of the dangers of social media promoting extremist views and isolationism in a rare interview since he left office.

Barack Obama made the comments in an interview with Britain's Prince Harry for BBC Radio.    The former leader said he was concerned by the use of social media to reinforce people's views and said it could be used to spread misinformation.

Mr Obama did not mentioned his successor, President Donald Trump by name.  President Trump is a prolific tweeter while at the same time accusing mainstream media outlets of promoting fake news.

Speaking to Prince Harry, the former President said the misuse of social media was a pressing issue.
