Fresh controversy for Pres. Trump

A fresh controversy erupted at the White House after U.S. President Donald Trump disparaged a U.S. Senator, claiming her nickname is Pocohantas, a Native American name, in front of World War II heros, the Navajo Code Talkers.

Pocohantas was the young woman who, according to legend, helped the first American colonists when they arrived in what is now Jamestown, Virginia in 1607.

Senator Elizabeth Warren says the president's nickname for her is not funny and it's a racial slur.

While Senator Warren says her family lore includes Delaware and Cherokee first peoples, White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders dismisses this as ridiculous.

During World War II, the Navajo code talkers used their own language to communicate - and the Japanese couldn't figure out what they were saying, giving the American forces an essential edge.
