White House calls for unified Spain

The Trump administration wants to see Spain remain as one country as the central government in Madrid takes steps to assert direct rule over breakaway province Catalonia.

The regional Catalan parliament voted behind closed doors to move forward following the October 1 independence referendum, triggering the constitutional crisis.

White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders does not think President Trump has spoken with Prime Minister Rajoy.
