SPAIN MOVES TO TAKE CONTROL OF CATALAN GOVT

Spain's central government is taking control of Catalan institutions as it moves to quash the region's declaration of independence.

Catalonia is being stripped of its autonomy and Catalan leader Carles Puigdemont has been removed from office.

If he and other Catalan officials refuse to step aside, they could face arrest.

Fresh elections have been called for 21st December.

Dr Caroline Gray is an expert in Spanish politics at Aston University - she says the days ahead are unpredictable.
