UK Prime Minister says she aims to keep net migration at sustainable levels after Brexit

UK Prime Minister Theresa May has been justifying her government's immigration plans as it prepares to leave the European Union.

It comes following a leaked Home Office proposal on immigration, which indicates the UK government is seeking to put a cap on the number of unskilled workers and the length of time they can stay in Britain.

The Guardian has published documents suggesting high-skilled workers would be extended the right to remain in the UK longer.

Mrs May told MPs at Prime Minster's questions that her government wants to ensure that net migration is kept at sustainable levels.
